August 26, 2010 at 12:02 pm | Posted in Coming Up | 1 Comment

In February of this year a man who served years behind bars was exonerated when it was revealed that the State Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab withheld evidence in his case. What followed was a revelation of alleged procedural violations, bias and evidence tampering at the SBI. Raleigh News and Observer reporter Mandy Locke has followed every twist and turn of this complicated plot and some say that the paper’s expose on the SBI prompted the recent leadership change there. We speak with Mandy Locke and others about the SBI, the new leadership and how a crime lab is meant to work.
