The political columnist and unofficial keeper of the English language, William Safire, died this past Sunday at the age of 79. Eight years ago, just after 9-11, we had a wide-ranging conversation with him in front of a live audience at Spirit Square. The then recent attacks shaped our discussion as did his book on The New Language of Politics. We revisit our conversation with William Safire.

  1. That was a great interview!

I was very surprised to hear you both talk of the threats posed by Iraq and Saddam Hussein so shortly after 9/11. It seems our first steps in wrong direction left some footprints in the Queen City?
