Today, we talk with members of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education.  We’ll discuss what they do and how the CMS Board works.  Ask your questions of the Board members in the comments below.

It’s fine for Mr. Gavreau to talk about how there are inefficiencies in the system and that money is being wasted, but it is blatantly obvious that this is a smokescreen argument designed to weaken the system. Teachers are paid so poorly that retaining competent ones is virtually impossible. My children attend Myers Park High School, traditionally one of the best schools in the district, yet that school is still struggling to put and keep competent teachers in the classroom — not a problem, I suspect at Charlotte Latin. My chidren have had several teachers who struggle to speak understandable English (foreign teachers with inadequate English skills) or are under-prepared to teach college-preparatory courses because of inadequate training or youth.

    Though they claim otherwise, the fundamental political philosophy behind the three dissenting board members seems to be interested in weaking and ultimately de-funding public education.
