African-Americans in the Media

Wednesday, March 12, we take a look at how African-Americans are portrayed in comic strips and comic books as well as in media in general.  We’ll also talk about the increasing number of African-Americans serving as reporters, anchors and editors.

  1. In my experience there doesn’t seem to be a consistent investment from comic companies into “black” comics or the voice of black comic creators. There is a pervasive myth that there is no market for black comics, which to me means the marketing departments of these companies are lazy. If the internet has proven anything, there is a market for everything and everyone.
