Ron Davis was born deeply dyslexic. He was labeled mentally handicapped at school, endured abuse and could not speak clearly or read at all until he was an adult- even with an IQ of 137. Then Mr. Davis discovered a method to emerge from his Dyslexia and went on to become an engineer, businessman and now an author. He calls his Dyslexia a gift- we’ll find out why.

Statesville native Chris Bumgarner wanted to break the Guinness World Record for the longest continual music concert by multiple artists; but first he had to figure out how to organize a 255 hour, ten day music marathon. He also had to sort through the red tape of documenting the record with Guinness. Hear about the journey that made Statesville a member of the Guinness Book of World Records.

We’ll take a closer look at the quest for Alcoa Power Generating, Inc. to retain its control over part of the Yadkin River northeast of Charlotte. There are several opponents to their effort, including Stanly County officials who think that the Yadkin River should be in the public’s control, and not a private company’s. We’ll discuss the details behind the dispute- including environmental issues, hydroelectric power generation and the relationship between Alcoa and the Yadkin River in that part of the state. We’ll also hear about how these water management situations are typically handled and how this dispute may be resolved.

We’ll discuss the nuclear comeback, why Charlotte is becoming such a hotbed for nuclear jobs and find out how the industry is encouraging nuclear energy as a career.
