Long time Raleigh reporter Rob Christensen has written a book about the unique politics of our state and the diverse cast of characters who have been political leaders in North Carolina. His book, The Paradox of Tar Heel Politics: The Personalities, Elections, and Events That Shaped Modern North Carolina, attempts to answer questions such as how the same state can produce politicians as different as Jesse Helms and John Edwards.

Our region is growing more diverse, with a multitude of languages spoken every day on our city streets. Public resources for bilingual education are on the rise. And dual language immersion academies are becoming more popular at CMS. Studies say that bilingual kids are at an academic advantage. We’ll look at the emergence of a bilingual generation in America, and the politics of promoting cultural diversity in our country.
